چکیده
Carcinogenic heavy metal chromium, in its hexavalent form (Cr(VI)), is spuriously used in various industrial operations because of its hardness and stability and is found in industrial effluents in concentrations much above WHO’s prescribed limit (50 mg/L). Conventional methods for removing toxic chromium ion (by chemical reduction followed by precipitation, ionexchange and adsorption on activated coal, alum, kaolinite and ash) are costly for large scale treatment. Microbial uptake followed by reduction of toxic Cr(VI) may be very successful since biological strategies provide cost effective green technology. In this study, we have isolated a new powerful chromium resistant bacterium isolated from tannery waste and studied its utilization in bioremediation as well as biosensing of Cr(VI).

Prevalence of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases Enzymes in Enterobacter Aerogenes Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections in Shahrekord City
Introduction: Enterobacteriaceae produce the Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases which is considered as an important resistant mechanism of beta-lactam antibiotics. The resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics is the main problem in the bacterial infections therapy. The prevalence of these enzymes changes in different geographical areas and with time. The present study aims to explore the frequency ...
متن کاملBioremediation Of Heavy Metal Toxicity-With Special Reference To Chromium
All metals are toxic and our bodies require special transport and handling mechanisms to keep them from harming us. The toxicity occurs in humans due to environmental pollution via soil or water contamination or due to occupational exposure. Some of these metals are useful to us in low concentrations but are highly toxic in higher concentrations. These metal toxicity cause serious morbidity and...
متن کاملThe enzymatic decomposition of S-adenosyl-L-methionine.
The role of S-adenosyl-n-methionine as a methyl donor has been investigated in mammalian systems (1) and in microbial metabolism (2-4). In addition, the compound is involved in the formation of spermidine from putrescine (5). Information concerning the stability of S-adenosylmethionine in various enzymatic systems is a necessary prerequisite for studies concerning its role in group transfer. In...
متن کاملEffects of Chromium on Enzymatic/Nonenzymatic Antioxidants and Oxidant Levels of Portulaca oleracea L.
Purslane(Portulaca oleracea L.) is a local plant in Iran that can easily breed. Chromium is a heavy metal that causes toxicity for the growth and development of plants. To study the effects of potassium dichromate on growth, efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm), cell membrane stability index (MSI), indexes of oxidative stress and antioxidant properties of purslane, an experiment was d...
متن کاملThe Degradation of Histidine by Aerobacter Aerogenes* by Boris Magasanik
In the course of the studies presented in the preceding paper it was observed that Aerobacter aerogenes could grow on histidine as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen (1). The nature of the microbial enzymes responsible for the complete degradation of histidine was not known and appeared therefore to be an appropriate subject for investigation. After initiation of these studies, the results ...
